Barclays Bank Brighton Branch

142, 139 North St, Brighton BN1 1RU – 0345 734 5345

I do all my banking here, very attentive team and a nice building. :-)

The Co-operative Bank

164-165 Western Rd, Brighton BN1 2BB – 01273 747785

The Co-op Bank in Brighton is wonderful. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful, no matter who you are. The staff on the phone helpline are just the same, ready to help with any problem we, the customers, might have, although it is one of the few banks, in my experience, that actually give you their local number to call also. I've only been with them for 7 years, but would never change banks. The big problem for me is that I am disabled and there is only the one branch, very far from my home. That's the only drawback. Please open more branches in Portslade and Hove !!!

but PSC along with 20 local groups working for Palestine (including 10 PSC branches) have had their bank accounts unilaterally closed by the Co-operative bank. The reason? The Co-op bank say they've changed their "risk appetite". Apparently Palestinian human rights are too "risky" for the Co-operative bank. This is disgusting for a so called ethical banking. I will have to think seriously about staying with you.

153 North St, Brighton BN1 1RE – 0345 740 4404

I have my account here starting of this year. It was a smooth process with all the proper info given by the representative of the bank. I haven't faced any issues since then with my normal day to day banking needs. Completely satisfied with the service.

I never write reviews for anything, but I have to because my customer service today in your branch was amazing!! I'm 19, and needed help and advice to do with my account, and a helpful and lovely, (and i should mention gorgeous as well!) man named Louis Charman was the most helpful anyone has been in your branch. Thank you so much Louis, oh and call me!!! :) Daisy Curly.

I am so thankful to the man from Hollingdean Recycling Depot. Who recused my sister early this morning and got her home safely with such care and concern after she was freezing cold and wet from the rain after being stranded by friends. Fantastic at how kind and caring he was. Hope he gets a pay rise for going beyond his call of duty!!!

We had a very good team in Coldean this summer, both for public and private refuse collections. The crews are friendly and are hard working too. We really appreciate the hours you put in. Thank you. ;)

Dental Surgeries

Duke Street Dental Centre

Duke St, Brighton BN1 1AG – 01273 711999

Fantastic dental practice run by lovely husband and wife team. Also Nicole the hygienist is an absolute star and always makes me feel a million dollars! Highly recommend.

Amazing. I went here a few years ago and had the best treatment/filling of my life. My tooth was rotten and the old filling was replaced by a white one. The dentist (David, the male owner of the practice) made sure the anesthetic reached my nerve and wouldn't begin until all feeling was gone. I have had a fair few fillings and this was the only filling I ever had that I couldn't feel having done. I was so at ease and the dentist was meticulous and spent all his time and effort making the filling look like a regular tooth. I am usually NHS but this was the best £300 I ever spent. I still show people my filling because I still can't believe its one, it looks so amazing. It was a big job and David was concerned I may need a root canal. But 4 years on I have had zero problems with it. Thank you so much! So glad I came across this practice.

SmileWorks Dental and Orthodontic Clinic

250 Dyke Rd, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 5AE – 01273 964999

It has been awhile since my last visit to a dentist and I did a little search for an experienced dentist in Brighton - given that i'd just moved to Brighton, in a new environment and the need to visit a practice by an anxious patient. I had fillings done by Dr Simon today and I was so so relieved! Simon was very professional and gentle; he reassure me that he will make the treatment as comfortable as possible and there was really no pain throughout! The practise is in a very clean environment and very comforting for anxious patients like me as it was so spacious. Reception lady (i'm sorry i didnt ask for your name, i'll be sure to ask the next time!) was really friendly, always smiling and laughing - feels like home for me =) SmileWorks is definitely my no.1 choice!

Wow! What amazing care! I had booked an appointment for what I thought was to be a small, routine procedure. However, it turned ot to be quite a saga requiring several visits. On each of these, I was warmly greeted on arrival at the immaculate and attractive premises; I was seen on time and treated with the utmost skill and, just as importantly, real care and consideration. At no time did I feel that I was a nuisance or taking up valuable time. At no time, either, did I feel any pain or discomfort: for me, a really important factor in dental visits! Look no further: Dr Hrsley and his staff are the finest you will find!

Brighton Dental Clinic

St James's Mansions, St James's St, Brighton BN1 1EN – 01273 570700

Looked after very well by Ilias and his team. I would highly recommend Ilias to anyone who is looking for a dentist that cares about his patients, treats them with respect and if you are, like me a nervous patient, he is your man! Robert.

I took both my children here to see Ilias the dentist. He was so friendly and welcoming that they simply jumped into the dentists’ chair! I would highly recommend the practice and their wonderful reception of children.

Royal Sussex County Hospital

Barry Building,, Eastern Rd, Brighton BN2 5BE – 01273 696955

My wife's treatment when her Aorta failed was absolutely brilliant. An eight hour operation at half an hour's notice, out of the blue which, without any doubt, saved her life. The whole Cardiac team are wonderful, not just with the surgery, but every single member of the team is compassionate, caring and very professional. I cannot praise them enough. The follow up treatment has also been beyond reproach, with personal unhurried attention from everyone, including the very top man. I must also praise the A&E department at PRH Haywards Heath, who detected the problem when she went in with chest pains, and got her down to Brighton in the nick of time. Those who critise the NHS should look at the bigger picture. If this had been in America I would have had to sell my house to pay for it, and them some!

2nd January 2016 Dear Sir NHS Care at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Having just completed a weeks stay (15th to 20th Dec) I would like to offer the following comments in the hope it may help the future direction of Health Services in the Sussex Area. Firstly I have never once dialled 999 in nearly 73 years yet when I did the service was immediate and highly professional. My dispatch 23 miles to Brighton from deepest rural Sussex to A&E was exemplary and the hand over thankfully expeditious. I was in severe pain with and abdominal obstruction and frankly dreading the experience from numerous reports of drunks and addicts attending but thankfully found the place quiet and professional at all times, giving one a feeling of optimism that one was in the right place. Admission was again swift and the ward Floor 9 SW though busy at all times was attentive to every need including pain relief. The bed was comfortable and clean and the medical care superb. I am a diabetic with some medical experience so was impressed at the knowledge and training of all staff involved in my care. I would like to record my personal gratitude to all staff who not only did their contracted duty but went way beyond. At night it was touching to overhear some patients given kindness that can only flow from a heart attuned to inner suffering. At every level from Senior Doctors to trainees from Technicians to Porters the service was terrific and this come from one who last worked in the NHS 50 years ago and who spares the Service by using Private Hospitals. If I had a criticism it would be that the NHS could function even better if it could be more selective in its patients ! With such insanely high levels of self inflicted trauma due to for example drink and drugs the time will surely have to come to prioritise care to those are responsible and able to use NHS resources wisely. Its been a great privilege to use a service I have long contributed towards and find it in such good health contrary to Media reports. Please convey this to whoever might be interested together with the appreciation of both my family and myself. Well done all Peter Barton

Charlexa Rubbish Clearance and Recycling

110 Hillside, Brighton BN2 4TE – 01273 581611

Charlexarecycling cleared a flat of a relative who had passed away and was very understanding and great value for money. Would recommend them to anyone.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Brighton

Terre A Terre

71 East St, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 1HQ – 01273 729051

If you want outstanding vegetarian food then this is the place to go. Close to the lanes and the beach. Staff are exceptionally good always very helpful, engaging and very knowledgable about the food. You don't have to be vegetarian to be able to appreciate jut how good Terre a Terre is.

Full vegetarian cafe/restaurant with a brunchy lunchy menu that is just so incredibly inviting and you just wanna order everything even though there's just the two of you... We ordered the big brekky muffin (served with a maple tomato paste), the bao with tofu (served with a dipping sauce and cucumber, watermelon pickles) and the smokey chips with guacamole. The latter two were incredibly tasty. The muffin however was really messy to eat and I thought the omelette itself was overdone for my personal liking (I like my eggs creamy or oozy). I really wanted to give this place five stars but it's let down by the coffee (honestly it was more foam than anything) and the dandelion coffee far too diluted. We had to go elsewhere after for coffee! Oh the fries were incredibly tasty and crunchy! You must order that and the portion is perfect for sharing! I wanna go back for their other fries that sounded incredibly unctuous and inviting!

The Chilli Pickle

17 Jubilee St, Brighton BN1 1GE – 01273 900383

I loved the thali platters that we got at The Chili Pickle for lunch. Gluten free options abound, and if you can't eat the naan you get dosa instead. Hooray! Everything tasted pretty fantastic, and in good quantity. It was a tad busy on a weekend, but we still didn't have to wait for a table and the service was good.

Amazingly good fresh Indian food. Well worth the money. Love it.

Planet India

4-5 Richmond Parade, Brighton, East Sussex County BN2 9PH – 01273 818149

Amazing veggie curry Pani Puri excellent and the Cheesey Peas to die for especially with extra fresh chillis. Atmosphere great as was the service. House white lovely and I was accommodated easily. All round a great experience and something a bit different with the menu and the staff. Top notch!!!!!

Hands down best Indian in Brighton! Especially if you are vegetarian. I go as much as I can but it is a bit expensive (But 100% worth it) My favourite foods off the menu are the samosa, chat puri, pani puri and mater paneer. Great Staff & such a homely vibe

Nursery and Preschools

Orchard Day Nursery

Queen's Park Rd, Brighton BN2 0GL – 01273 622883

In almost two years of taking my son here I've not had any one to one feedback on his progress, with each day's report sounding identical to the last. The nursery is happy to take your money, but the minute you need them to be flexible around a one off situation you'll find it near impossible to get them to help. Oh and if you intend on taking you child here I'd invest in a stop watch, as you'll get charged if you drop him in a minute before your agreed time. Does the fact you often pick him up early count for anything? No. Overall my son seems to enjoy it there - but how it gets on there, what he's good at and how he's developing I don't have a clue...

The Montessori Place

45 Cromwell Rd, Hove, The City of Brighton and Hove BN3 3ER, UK – 01273 773764

The Montessori Place is, by far, the best Montessori school in Brighton and Hove. Our child is engaged and massively enthusiastic about all that he does there. If you are looking for true, authentic Montessori education then this is the place you need to look at. They have the best Montessori people in the UK working there and not only allow my child to thrive but also provide events for the parents to learn as well. Above all, they have built a Montessori community that is driven by the school and are constantly pushing the boundaries of Montessori in the UK. If you are looking for a Montessori School in Brighton and Hove you seriously need to check this one out. You won't regret it.

Robins Nursery School Ltd

All Saints Hove, Wilbury Rd, Hove BN3 3PB – 01273 725600

My soon attends to robins nursery,i have no words for the amazing job all the staff does, every morning my soon keep asking me if its time to go nursery and you can see the smile in his face how happy and excited he is and how much he enjoy going to nursery, he already been in 2 very popular nurseries in hove but struggle to set. the garden is great and safe, kids are well look after and the staff are so involve with them making every day a great experience, my soon got involved very quickly. there are so many nice nurseries around in nice and posh houses, full of toys and massive gardens but no one with that much experience and care as robins, well worth it to try, lots of activities and fun every day...great management and amazing staff...couldn't be better.

Amazing place. Historic buildings, could be used for remake of Harry Potter. Well behaved young people. I wish I could go to this kind of school as a kid.

Wonderful place - a hidden gem of a campus in the middle of Brighton with some lovely modern buildings among the traditional Victoriana. Pupils appear bright, polite and charming. One of the most impressive academic reputations in the UK.

Windlesham School Trust Ltd

190 Dyke Rd, Hove, Brighton BN1 5AA – 01273 553645

Fantastic school. Both my children are very happy here, and love coming to school. The friendly happy environment makes their learning experience so enjoyable. Specialist subject teachers in the upper school and a swimming pool on site is preparing my children for a smooth transition into secondary school and teaching them valuable life skills.

One of the only truly independent primary schools in Brighton so it's able to work with the individual child to get the best from them and for them. I've had two boys in the school, who have gone all the way through and they have been very happy there and have been challenged to achieve their best.
