Banks

Lloyds Bank

171-173 North St, Brighton BN1 1GL, UK – 0345 300 0000

Staff always polite, helpful, and mostly cheerful which is the real plus point of this branch. Not so good regarding the interior of the building, although well laid out it's quite grubby [for a bank] and needs redecorating. The background music is an annoying & unnecessary distraction, particularly when trying to discuss anything of depth with the staff.

My first and only British bank account was opened from here! Loved it!

The Co-op Bank - Brighton

164-165 Western Rd, Brighton BN1 2BB, UK – 01273 747785

This is a great branch. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

The Co-op Bank in Brighton is wonderful. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful, no matter who you are. The staff on the phone helpline are just the same, ready to help with any problem we, the customers, might have, although it is one of the few banks, in my experience, that actually give you their local number to call also. I've only been with them for 7 years, but would never change banks. The big problem for me is that I am disabled and there is only the one branch, very far from my home. That's the only drawback. Please open more branches in Portslade and Hove !!!

HSBC

153 North St, Brighton BN1 1RE, UK – 0345 740 4404

Good location but you usually have to a queue

Its a bank, so on that front it's really rather good, but it's let down somewhat by HSBC supporting terrorist groups and laundering money for mexican cartels.

Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. Brighton & Hove City Council, Customer Service Centre

Bartholomew House, Bartholomew Square, Brighton BN1 1JE, UK – 01273 290000

Modern and spacious facilities, not exactly something to write home about. At least they try and make the experience of queuing up relatively pain free and simple. Could do with more reception staff.

Dental Surgeries

Centre for Dentistry

Lewes Road, Inside Sainsbury's, Brighton BN2 3QA, UK – 01273 907002

Had my new patient check up today with Dr Shah. I had previously been nervous following visits in my past to dentists but as soon as I met Dr Shah I felt relaxed. He was really kind, professional and helpful and explained everything clearly so I knew what I needed to have done. Will definitely be staying! Really reasonable pricing for Brigton too.

All the team is very friendly and professional. The prices are reasonable and very fast appointment. Great. Thank you.

Trafalgar Dental Practice

20 Trafalgar St, North Laine, Brighton BN1 4EQ, UK – 01273 677727

I have been a patient at Trafalgar Street Dental Practice for many years, and have always found all aspects of their service great, from the reception to the German hygienist, who is very thorough. One of the dentists, Tam, is very gentle. I had a filling today and barely even felt the anaesthetic injection, so all went very smoothly. I would highly recommend this practice.

Amazing staff! Had to have emergency treatment on an abcess. Managed to fit me in even tho they were extra busy. Great work from Tham my main dentist. He always makes me feel comfortable and does a great job. Recommended :)

Norfolk Square Dental Practice, Brighton Dentist

40 Norfolk Square, Brighton BN1 2PE, UK – 01273 733000

Totally fabulous experience! I had some cosmetic work done on my front teeth which I had been unhappy with for quite some time. Also had a crown fitted. In an hour I have a new smile and all looks great.....I'm so happy with the result. Very professional, efficient no nonsense service. My new dentist is a genius and I would recommend to anyone without hesitation. Thank you so much, Linda

After a dreadful experience at my last dentist, my faith in dentistry has been restored. Had to have several procedures done and each one was quick and painless. Michelle and her assistant are very friendly and even had me laughing mid procedure. 10/10 would recommend.

Beaconsfield Medical Practice

175 Preston Rd, Hove, Brighton BN1 6AG, UK – 01273 552212

This truly has to be one of the top 10 practices in the whole of the south east. your given time to explain, your listened to and the care given is second to none from reception, to practice managers, nurses and the Best GPs around......would recommend this practice to everyone.

Stanford Medical Centre

175 Preston Rd, Hove, Brighton BN1 6AG, UK – 01273 560109

I don't understand the poor reviews I've seen from some regarding this practice. I've been with the Stanford surgery for 17 years and have been very happy with them overall. I almost always manage to see the doctor I've requested, on the day I wanted. My preferred doctors are always attentive and helpful. I get reminders for reviews, and I find the nurses and support staff good. My only complaint would be about the car park management contractor. Last year I attended twice in one day, in my car. I was sent a penalty notice for overstaying in the car park - their system timed me from my first arrival in the morning, to my second departure in the afternoon! Challenging this was straightforward online, but getting a response and confirmation that the penalty was cancelled, took weeks, with repeated requests for a reply. Very annoying.

The Seven Dials Medical Centre

24 Montpelier Cres, Brighton BN1 3JJ, UK – 01273 773089

I"m very happy with the treatment at this Medical Centre. The receptionists, doctors and nurses are polite, human, and unusually kind.

The first medical centre I've been to where the receptionists are really friendly! They even let me in early because it was raining. Great staff and friendly atmosphere

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Excellent service

Royal Sussex County Hospital

Barry Building,, Eastern Rd, Brighton BN2 5BE, UK – 01273 696955

I have just had a pilonidal abscess opteration at 7am this morning and was really impressed with the friendliness, professionalism and patience of staff at the hospital. This is my third operation that's taken place here and I have always been treated incredibly well and have had the best possible care. Considering the workload and pressures on staff I have always been made to feel that my needs come first and I am listened to. Thank you to all staff that have helped me.

Over Christmas 2016, I stayed at the Vascular ward for 8 days. I was there because I had a femur tibia bypass. The staff, reception, consultants, nurses and doctors were terrific, brilliant and caring.A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO LOOKED AFTER ME, I Would give the rating 5 stars but the catering was poor,a let down, apart from this everything was perfect, you will be cared for, looked after, Thank you

The Montefiore Hospital

2 Montefiore Rd, Hove BN3 1RD, UK – 01273 828120

I had a full knee replacement and was apprehensive beforehand. The staff soon put me at ease. Nursing staff were all fantastic and helpful. Pre-op staff were excellent putting me at ease as too was the anesthesatist (Karen Henderson) who was very kind and reassuring. I had every faith in the brilliant surgeon Mr Chauhan. Post op the service was just as good. Great Physio team had me up on my feet same day as op. Great food. Overall can't fault my experience -highly recommended. V Watson

I had a tendon reattached to my right femur in November 2014 with an overnight stay. I cannot praise this hospital enough. Being only 2 years old and built to private specifications it is a delightful building and, as an NHS patient I was treated with courtesy, respect and ultimate care whilst there. The food choice and quality cannot be criticised, the nursing staff light-hearted yet totally committed to your wellbeing. Likewise, the surgeon I had, Mr James Gibbs, was approachable, caring and clearly highly skilled based on the outcome of the operation. As far as I am concerned, the whole experience is beyond any form of criticism other than you get the answer phone too often when phoning to make an enquiry or book an appointment

Saint Mary Magdalen's Catholic Church

55 Upper N St, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 3FH, UK – 01273 326793

My first encounter with St Mary Magdalen's Roman Catholic Church was almost a year ago, when I forced my nephew to go to Latin Mass after a long beautiful sunny day on the beach. First time for me and him, too. Surprisingly just weeks after with a twist of faith, work brings me here every weekend. It's beautiful 150 years Grade ll listed old Church. It looks much much better inside with stained glass windows, painted Statues of Saints, the Gothic style is settled and classy. It's worth visiting. And on Sundays there is an English Mass at 5pm, so after a long sunny day, one can listen to one of the best, down to earth, inspiring Sermons by Parish Priest Fr. Ray Blake.

The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Excellent Burns Night Dinner. Delicious and we will be back.

Cafe Rouge

24 Prince Albert Street, Brighton BN1 1HF, UK – 01273 774422

The place is old and not clean. The food was average. We didn't really enjoy much there. However the service was nice and friendly.

Some issue with the new year eve menu. We came in three and we got a beuf burgignon a peppercorn souce fillet and a salmon. The fillet was good, but the rest was very bland. I love the bourgignon and this was very liquid and bland.... under par. Please fix it. The rest (soup amd dessert) was ok but the for 30 GBP per person the expectation was much higher.

Browns Brighton

3-4 Duke St, Brighton BN1 1AH, UK – 01273 323501

Nursery and Preschools

Robins Nursery School Ltd

All Saints Hove, Wilbury Rd, Hove BN3 3PB, UK – 01273 725600

My soon attends to robins nursery,i have no words for the amazing job all the staff does, every morning my soon keep asking me if its time to go nursery and you can see the smile in his face how happy and excited he is and how much he enjoy going to nursery, he already been in 2 very popular nurseries in hove but struggle to set. the garden is great and safe, kids are well look after and the staff are so involve with them making every day a great experience, my soon got involved very quickly. there are so many nice nurseries around in nice and posh houses, full of toys and massive gardens but no one with that much experience and care as robins, well worth it to try, lots of activities and fun every day...great management and amazing staff...couldn't be better.

Orchard Day Nursery

Queen's Park Rd, Brighton BN2 0GL, UK – 01273 622883

In almost two years of taking my son here I've not had any one to one feedback on his progress, with each day's report sounding identical to the last. The nursery is happy to take your money, but the minute you need them to be flexible around a one off situation you'll find it near impossible to get them to help. Oh and if you intend on taking you child here I'd invest in a stop watch, as you'll get charged if you drop him in a minute before your agreed time. Does the fact you often pick him up early count for anything? No. Overall my son seems to enjoy it there - but how it gets on there, what he's good at and how he's developing I don't have a clue...

Daisy Chain Hove

41 Medina Villas, Hove BN3 2RP, UK – 01273 204584

Very good school

Carden Primary School

County Oak Ave, Brighton BN1 8LU, UK – 01273 293677

My daughter attends Carden Primary School and I would 100% recommend this school to prospective parents. From the very first meeting (when I was choosing a school) I was impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the staff, the well-behaved and happy school children and the amazing spaces they have both inside and outside. My daughter's experience of starting reception was excellent, and for this I give the credit to the school, having organised stay-and-play classroom sessions, nursery visits, home visits and a gentle increase in the length of the school day. I feel that this all contributed to my daughter feeling at ease and indeed happy and ready to learn. The school uses cued articulation to learn phonics and I am amazed at the reading progress my child has made. Parents have also been given an opportunity to attend a learning session to help our children develop their reading skills. The school has an active, fun and welcoming Parent and Teachers Association (PTA). The PTA are continually working to help improve the experience of every child and indeed parents at this school. The inclusion of all children and the ethos of acceptance and kindness is apparent in my daughter's progression. I have every confidence that she will leave this school not only well-educated, but also a kind and thoughtful child.

I love carden
