Yorkshire Building Society

I come from Dublin Ireland and have recently relocated to Brighton. I spent weeks attempting to set up a UK bank account receiving a negative response from most of the established bank including the Co Op bank and METRO ...I am a professional person who has always had,a,good credit record and found the experience exhausting and humiliating. I finally approached the YORKSHIRE BUILDING SOCIETY where the manager Ian was extremely helpful and respectful and got an account set up for me on the spot. Within 2 days I had received my bank card and have found all the staff extremely supportive and efficient . I would highly recomment the YORKSHIRE BUILDING SOCIETY to anyone particularly to individuals from outside the UK who need to set up a basic bank account in Britain , quickly and without fuss... Dental Surgeries

Hove Family Dental Practice

11 New Church Rd, Hove BN3 4AA, UK – 01273 227722

Fantastic Place. A kind and most important - gentle - dental surgery that does a great job and really looks after it patients.

We have been using tHove Family Dental Practice for over 20 years. I have nothing but praise for it. My wife had had some cosmetic dentistry which finished today and she is extremely happy with it. I must say I am somewhat surprised to read a couple of negative reviews. They just don’t ring representative of this practice, to me.

Morley Street Dental Clinic

The School Clinic, Morley St, Brighton BN2 9DH, UK – 01273 692549

It's because dental place that I've actually been to as disabled person without being harassed in some sort of way! Dentists here are a very accommodating and have a lot of accessibility equipment that can actually tip wheelchairs backwards if you use a wheelchair! There is also a lower desk area for when you need to speak to reception :) However they don't take new patients unless you get referred by your GP! One more thing they have tooth brushes and other dental equipment for you to buy, just like any other dentist.

Wonderful surgery with lovely staff

Eaton Road Dental Practice Ltd

30 Eaton Rd, Hove BN3 3QA, UK – 01273 820888

The whole practice is very clean and the receptionist's are very friendly.Vida has been my dentist fir the past 5 years. If yiu are looking for a dentist look no further.I highly recommend Hove Dental practice..Simon Bowles

Fixed my front teeth after I cracked them both in half. I would highly recommend this dental practice for their care and expertise. It wasn't an easy fix either. Other dentists were very unsure of their ability to fix it and so I lost confidence in them too. Eaton Road Dental Practice, however, got the job done, showing diligence, skill and compassion. Now I have two crowns over the broken teeth, and my smile looks better than it did before. Massive thanks to Vida and her assistant Maggie.

North Lane Medical Centre Dr Sharp & Partner

12-14 Gloucester St, Brighton BN1 4EW, UK – 01273 601112

I find myself agreeing with Jacob regarding the lack of empathy and making you feel that the surgery has your best interests at heart, ever since Dr Sharp went down to two day's a week due to other commitments to the community and health service, this surgery and one Dr have lost my trust and trust in any Dr is earn't by how you are treated, unfortunately the partner seems more concerned with saving money by seeking the cheapest medications and denying you the medication and treatments you need now, not weeks or months later, he actually came out and said no I'm not giving you supplementary dietary requirements until i have seen a dietician, I'm 52 5'8" and my weight is nine stone as i have no appetite and find it painful when I can eat due to the fact that i have no bottom teeth in which to chew food and he must be aware as i had a 360 scan done on my teeth and bone density. Pure arrogance or ignorance i do not know, but what i do know is that i have no confidence in Dr Ioannidis as he must have some type of language communication barrier, as he states that i asked by name for a medication that i am allergic to that lead me to suffer severe complications, when i fact my words were "anything other than as that medication only gave me severe headaches". I had no choice other than to call an ambulance after hours of sweats and laboured breathing, these wonderful people spent over three hours to bring my breathing and profuce sweating under control. Not once did i see this Dr check my records prior to prescribing Zolpidem. My neighbour has issues regarding communication with this Dr too. If you have any kind of substance misuse or smoke, then pick another Dr! Within this surgery as there are more competent Dr's to choose from.

Speaking as relatively a new patient, having joined some 5-6 months ago, I am happy to find both staff and doctors both helpful and friendly. Whilst not forgetting the length of time waiting for appointments. Which, -as long as you’re prepared to wait between 2 plus weeks for a normal or standard appointment, then I’ve found the Center well organised and efficient. -Although having said a normal appointment can take some time, if it’s an urgent appointment, then it’s a different matter.. Which, providing you start early from 8.30am or before 9am, then personally I’ve always been seen, or had a phone appointment from say 11.30 on, in the same morning.. -It’s a shame that not enough money is going into the NHS, because I suspect that has quite a bearing on how quickly patients are seen. As well the balance between patients and ALL the skilled workers who are part of this fundamental and valuable function.

The Montefiore Hospital

2 Montefiore Rd, Hove BN3 1RD, UK – 01273 828120

Superb hospital, I have visited as an outpatient and inpatient and always received a very friendly and professional service. The nurses are fantastic! I had a breast reduction last year and was in for 1 night. I could not fault it, very clean, inviting and felt reassured I was in capable hands. The food was also excellent!

I had appointments and an MRI Scan here last year. I must say my experiences were 5 star and I couldn’t find fault in anything. Thank you for such a hassle free hospital visit.

Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital

Eastern Rd, Brighton BN2 5BE, UK – 01273 696955

Been here on a few occasions. On all visits the staff are always lovely and friendly. There is always a wait but this is the same in any A&E department of any hospital and is to be expected! The waiting area was clean and in good order. Well done to all the great NHS staff in this hospital. 👍

My daughter was looked after so well today for her dental op a big thank you to all staff especially to her nurse Mel who helped my very squeamish daughter cope with all the medical stuff...she has had 4 ops there plus lots of pre and post op appointments very impressed with all staff thank you

St Michael's Church

Victoria Road, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 3BD, Brighton BN1 3HJ, UK – 01273 822284

St Michaels & All Angels is two churches in one, the first being by Bodley in 1862 and the enlarged "new" church being by Burges and completed in 1893 after his death. It is known as "the cathedral of the backstreets" for its astounding architecture in the style of Amiens Cathedral and others. This Grade one listed building's main claim to fame is the stunning Pre-Raphaelite glass by Wiliiam Morris, Burne -Jones, Rossetti, Philip Webb and others. I recommend a visit on Saturday between 10 am and 4pm; preceded by a superb fried breakfast in the adjacent hall between 9am and 10.30 am

Find Recycling Centres

Magpie Recycling

109 Lewes Rd, Brighton BN2 4AE, UK – 01273 677577

Always something different to find here. It's not a 'shop' - it's a coop, which means they are a community, not a business. The staff are genuinely here to help, by being very knowledgeable on sourcing local resources and, on the avenues of waste and recycling services available - tho you have to dig a bit sometimes because different members know different things and, the items or services you require may not always be evident or even present! It's a place that keeps you coming back. They have helped me get back on my feet - I had a lot of old to send away and new to bring in. Their services, knowledge and community attitude really helped turn my life around and gave me a perspective of what a community attitude of 'pulling together' is. Don't expect a high street retail shopping experience with psynchopathic staff; anticipate a uniquely 'Brightonian' experience of humble yet practical people - (very) busy doing practical things to make a real difference in the world of which EVERYONE is but a tiny part. Thank you, Magpie. You're the best!

They have provided good quality items to our rental properties for some time - always really helpful and never been sold any rubbish !

Brighton recycling centre

185 Wilson Ave, Brighton BN2 5PD, UK – 0845 355 0550

Helpful people when you are not sure what goes where. Small so can get busy. Good to see so many people recycling. Another bigger place over in Hove as well.

They have got a bin for every material, usually recycling is so beneficial to go green and to use less polluting material, the staff there was very helpful and supportive, if you don’t know where to throw just ask anyone.. well arranged place ...

Greenacre Recycling Ltd

New Rd, Brighton, Newhaven BN9 0HE, UK – 01273 600909

Great service, well priced, would use again.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Brighton

Plateau

1 Bartholomews, Brighton BN1 1HG, UK – 01273 733085

Great, laidback Brighton restaurant in a central part of town. Pretty small, loads of atmosphere especially at night, decent value too - not especially cheap but not expensive for the experience. Excellent cocktail and wine list, plenty do interesting food with many different influences, from small plates to mains. Service is really good, on it but not in your face. Real mix of diners adds to the charm. Overall if you're in Brighton in a group of 2-4 this is a cracking place to come.

I really liked Plateau - I had a two-course set menu lunch. The courgette starter I would pass on, but the flat iron steak was superb. A wine place, but did have a very good beer list too if that is your thing.

The Restaurant At Drakes

43-44 Marine Parade, Brighton BN2 1PE, UK – 01273 696934

Very attentive, experienced and knowledge staff. Creative menu and the wagyu beef was exceptional! I would highly recommend!

Exquisite food, extremely friendly, attentive and professional staff. Will definitely be visiting again!

The Little Fish Market

10 Upper Market St, Hove BN3 1AS, UK – 01273 722213

A fantastic fish restaurant. Great, creative set menu which focuses on fresh local fish. Also have well chosen wine pairings for each dish on the menu. Relaxed atmosphere with really outstanding service, I look forward to coming back!

Beautifully presented food. Top quality ingredients. Varied wine list. Amazingly elegant service. This night was an experience, so much more than just a meal. Highly recommend getting a coffee!

Nursery and Preschools

Robins Nursery School Ltd

Eaton Rd, Hove BN3 3PB, UK – 01273 725600

My son (who is profoundly deaf and has severe learning difficulties) attended here for 2.5 years- From the beginning it was so welcoming and the staff were superb. I always felt that they went over and above to support him in his learning and worked closely with all the professionals. He loved it and he a pretty demanding customer! Couldn't rate this place any higher. xx

My daughter went to Robins for two years and loved it. We had just moved to Brighton, she visited several other nurseries with me and kept crying and hanging on to me. At Robins she started playing immediately and almost forgot I was there on her first visit. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They felt like family - but highly qualified and knowledgeable. They helped my daughter grow and learn whilst having a lot of fun, and helped me too, as they are all so experienced. The atmosphere in the nursery is calm and stimulating, and every child is made to feel special. Lovely nursery and people, can't recommend enough!

St Andrews Community Preschool

St Andrews Church Hall, Church Rd, Hove BN3 2AD, UK – 01273 325172

Fabulous preschool run by an amazing staff team. My kids had a lot of fun here, the transition to big school was easy for them.

Best pre-school in Hove. Amazing caring staff make the best atmosphere for pre-schoolers to develop to their potential. Fun, organised play, and activities. My daughter loves her time there. We cannot fault it.

Primary and Secondary Schools

Windlesham School Brighton

190 Dyke Rd, Brighton BN1 5AA, UK – 01273 553645

Both my children have attended Windlesham school over the last 10 years. They are both very different children but both have had extremely positive experiences in the Windlesham environment. They have been treated as individuals and have been encouraged to develop their own talents both academically and across a diverse extra curricular programme. The school is growing from strength to strength providing a robust learning experience in a creative and relaxed environment. The recent leadership change has been a smooth transition and is already delivering new exciting initiatives for pupils and families.

Such a fantastic school, from the personal greeting each morning at the Welcome Gate, to the nurturing and caring environment provided by the teachers at the school. My children really enjoy the time they spend here, learning in a way that exites and keeps them engaged.

Queens Park Primary School

Park St, Brighton BN2 0BN, UK – 01273 686822

This is a lovely school. The staff are caring and friendly. My kids have done so much such as trips clubs and events. I thoroughly recommend it to everyone. It has some space in my kids class as kids moving out of expensive brighton. So get in there now while you can.

The Brighton & Hove Montessori School

67 Stanford Ave, Brighton BN1 6FB, UK – 01273 702485

I love this school.. to me it's exactly what a school should be. It's like a family more than an 'institution' and as a parent you feel very much in touch with the running and decision making. You are listened to and respected and yet not 'pandered to'. It's small and intimate but not cliquey or exclusive. I've really grown to love Daisy who runs the school.. she's a unique strong woman who doesn't take any BS and cares passionately about the emotional health of the children. She has been doing this for a long time and that stamina and love for what she does cannot be faked. Supported by Gerry they make a great team. Watching them work together is a real breath of fresh air.. no office politics, just mutual respect. Our child has been at the school for 2 years now and he has gone from a reluctant attendee to absolutely loving it. The respect and encouragement he gets is literally priceless. Ben who teaches the over 6s upstairs is lovely and gentle. Our boy is 5 so is still a part of the 'Children's House'. Elani is his teacher and we feel totally blessed that she is part of his life. Our son is smitten! Elani's understanding of children is profound. We have had a couple of meetings with her and both times have been blown away by her insights. What's best is that on top of all the important education stuff you can have a good laugh with the whole team.. there's no aloofness or stand offishness. All in all it's a tippety top cracker..

My son was very happy and gladly went to school at this school. We had our ups and downs but all in all, it was a happy experience

Public & Preparatory Schools

The Drive Prep School

101 The Drive, Hove BN3 6GE, UK – 01273 738444

I cannot emphasise enough how brilliant this school is! Children's wellbeing is really at the heart of this school, they feel safe, liked supported, valued and so they inevitably engage better with the learning process, become more curious and enthusiastic about subjects. My children are really happy here and as a parent so am I.

Great school warm and friendly atmosphere my son like the school nice helpful teachers everything is great
